1. How is Lunar New Year different from the January 1st new year? 

農曆新年和西元1月1日的新年又有何不同呢?

A : Chinese New Year is celebrated according to the Lunar Calendar as opposed to the Solar Calendar.

農曆新年是根據太陽運行測定的農曆日期來慶祝的。

 

2. When is the festival traditionally beginning?
春節假期是從何開始呢?

A :The Festival traditionally begins on the first day of the first month of the Lunar Calendar and ends on the 15th. This day is called the Lantern Festival.

這傳統節慶開始於農曆第1個月的第1天結束於第15天。而第15天又稱為元宵節。

 

3. What do people do during Lunar New Year?
在農曆新年期間,大家通常都會做什麼呢?
A :Lunar New Year is the most important holiday of the year.
農曆新年是一年中最重要的假期
(1). Family members get together for a reunion dinner.
家家戶戶都會回家團聚吃團圓飯
(2). Every family to thoroughly clean the house, in order to sweep away any ill fortune and to make way for incoming good luck.
家家戶戶都會大掃除,好好徹底地打掃家裡,代表掃去壞運,迎接好運。
(3). Windows and doors will be decorated with red paper-cuts and couplets with popular themes of “good fortune", “wealth", and “longevity."
窗戶和門邊都會貼上紅紙寫上對句的吉祥話,上面通常寫著好運、財富、長壽等新年吉祥話。
(4). Some people like to wear new clothes. That is to symbolize a new beginning for the new year, and the outfits usually contain the color red. As it is believed that red will scare away evil spirits and bad fortune.
有些人會在新年穿新衣服,代表在新的一年能有個全新的開始。通常都會穿上紅色的衣著因為相信紅色可以嚇跑年獸與壞運氣
(5). People will say “may you be prosperous “which means having a good luck and a financial fortune.
大家也都會在新春期間,互道「恭喜發財」,意涵祝福對方在新的一年能擁有好運與財運。

4. What are traditional dishes meaning on Lunar New Year?
在農曆新年中,許多佳餚的傳統意涵為何?
A :

Fish魚:
Many people eat but do not finish fish as the Chines phrase “may there be surplus every year” sounds the same as “may there be fish every year”
大家都不會把魚吃完,因為它代表有足夠的剩餘可用,即「年年有餘」。

Rice cake 、 glutinous rice flour pudding 年糕、發糕:
Many people eat rice cake or glutinous rice flour pudding that makes people "advance toward higher positions and prosperity step by step."
大家吃年糕或發糕,因為它代表讓我們「逐步晉升到更高的職位與興旺」 。

dumplings水餃:

Many people eat dumplings to amass fortunes and wealth.
許多人吃水餃,代表可為自己累積好運與財富。

5. What’s the red envelope ?
什麼是紅包?
A :The red color of the envelope symbolizes good luck and is supposed to ward off evil spirits.
紅包象徵帶來好運並趕走年獸與壞運氣
The amount of money should be even, because odd numbers are associated with funerals.
而紅包的金額必須是偶數,因為單數是於喪禮上的。
